80% of my blog friends are new moms or young moms that have had kids in the past few years. This statistic is the only reason why I'm not hiding underneath my desk right now.
Emily and I have been emailing each other words of encouragement, but I thought I would share my struggle with you guys too.
Losing weight post-baby is no joke. Forget motivation... Where is the time? Surely something needs to be cleaned, right? Oh, maybe I should take a nap instead.
After having Haven {and gaining almost 70lbs}, I decided to try that whole "lifestyle change." That phrase is just the fancy way of telling everyone that you're on a big fat diet.
Are you wondering how it's possible to gain 70lbs? Well that me tell you. Go from being a vegetarian your whole life to eating Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches from Hot Shots every day. Oh, and dip those sandwiches into mayo. Fatty McFatterson. Every. Day. Because when you don't have kids yet, going out to eat for every meal is as normal and affordable as breathing air.
When Haven was a year old, I was still 30lbs up from where I was pre-baby gargantuan. Just counting my calories and going to the gym took the pounds off. I went for extra 10 because I like to play mind games with myself.
So here I am post-Olive. I gained between 30-35lbs with her. 6 weeks post Olive, I had started gaining weight. How is that possible? I don't know. If I am stuck in a house all day, I cannot control my eating portions. And it was Christmas... and I have the appetite of a teenage boy going through puberty.
Fun fact: My stomach is a bottomless pit.
One more tid bit about me. I am obsessed with before and after pictures. Weight loss, home remodels, recipes, thrift finds, etc.
Which is why I am hooked to checking Mama Laughlin's blog every Monday. She is a little over three months out from having her 2nd baby. Every Monday, she posts her workout recap from the week before and her new weight.
We have the same goal: 135lbs.
So without further rambling... Here is me... In my Biggest-Loser-weigh-in-attire-glory:
6 weeks post Olive: 170.8 lbs

7 weeks post Olive: 160.0 lbs {I did an herbal cleanse to lose the water weight that I was still retaining}

11 weeks post Olive: 155.8 lbs

Are you mortified? Did you know that there could be a white Teletubby?
The first 10 lbs came off in one week. I did a 10 day herbal cleanse, which basically consisted of me eating clean, drinking an ocean of water, and taking some fiber pills. Out with the old...
The last 5 lbs have been a struggle. I may have celebrated the first 10lbs for too long.
What I am eating/doing:
- Going to the gym for one hour right after work. I like to do 30min of cardio, some chit chatting, some tv watching, a few weights, then I end with lunges and crunches.
- Drinking 100oz + of water daily. I have a 20oz cup and I make sure to fill it up at least five times.
- Breakfast: Protein shake {1 scoop of protein powder, a banana, a handful of frozen strawberries, and a cup of 2% milk}
- AM/PM Snacks: cutie oranges, 1/2 Luna bar, walnuts, cottage cheese
- Lunch: Spinach salad with veggie toppings. My favorite dressing right now is Paul Newman's Lite Honey Mustard
- Dinner: {I don't eat meat} My go-to options are: Lentils with green veggies/ steamed brown rice with salsa and avocado/ Sweet potato with cottage cheese and veggies/
I was hesitant to post pictures, but peer review/encouragement is a great way to get the last 20 lbs off. Checking in with Emily has been a big help for me... so why not check in with all of you new moms too?! :)
Happy Monday... I'm off to eat my salad!

Girl, you are looking GREAT! I am proud of you for 1) losing the weight (of course) and 2) posting the pictures! I didn't do good pictures for my before, and I PROMISE I'll do them at my first 20 lb weight loss check in. Hopefully next week??? We'll see. So happy for you Holly!!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! You are doing great. And I am sooo impressed with your before/after. And sooo impressed with your bravery to share something so personal. Amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteSo funny that I posted about this Friday! You are doing awesome, I can't believe the difference! I need to get this booty in gear!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! 15 pounds is AMAZING! You have me intrigued with your herbal cleanse...I could lose 10 lbs in a week, that would be totally fine with me! Keep going you are doing awesome!
ReplyDeleteKudos to you! That is awesome that you are setting and achieving those goals. I was able to do p90X about seven weeks after Crewe was born and loved the results. It is tough and woke up most days pissed that I had to do it but it worked and I was able to ditch the gym membership and do it at home.
ReplyDeleteThis is totally not a sales pitch, but I have photos of mine and his transformation if you are interested I can email them. He loves helping people out with achieving their goals and has helped some of my friends if you are interested. He is a coach but all of it is free.
I have wondered a lot how in the world I will lose weight with baby number 2 and finding time. I feel so vain somedays that it almost keeps me from wanting another one.
Probably should have made this an email, it is kind of turning into a novel.

ReplyDeletehaha. you're like almost 1/2 way there!!

This time i'm coming with a vengeance- 13 year old girl style.
You are so adorable, and I love you for posting this. I think every single one of us moms can relate, no matter when we had our babies! I gained weight with my first pregnancy that I carried for 10 years...until we went to the island. I lost it there due to stress, no more coffee creamer and no fast food. I feel so much better about myself and now I can say that I have lost a lot of the cravings for the stuff I thought I missed so much. You are looking SO good and you can totally do this! We are all cheering you on! GO HOLLY GO!
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome. Your meals are so good! And you are NOT a white teletubbie! You are so close, nice work Holly. You rock!!
ReplyDeleteYou look so great! I can see such a huge difference in your hips and waist. You are almost there! Keep at it and DON'T give up!
ReplyDeleteWow.........you're awesome.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! I can totally tell a difference. I stalked you over from Mama Laughlin. I still have about 15 to lose.....my girls are 8 and 3 and I am smaller now then b4 I was ever pregnant....keep up the awesome job
ReplyDeleteHolly: First, let me say that you can do it!! I gained 60 pounds with Jude, lost about 1/2 that relatively quickly (I had a LOT of water weight), but the rest felt like it was taking forever, until one day I just realized, "Huh, I'm back to my regular weight." I really wish I'd done the before/after thing like you.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note: I was just wondering, "How long has it been since I talked to Holly." Um, the fact that I knew nothing of little Olive, not even the potential of little Olive, should say something. Congratulations!! It really has been too long.
Bethany
Between you and Mama L. I guess I need to get off of my fat butt and start working out! Maybe I should blog a few times a week and be inspiring! LOL
ReplyDeleteI found your blog via Mama Laughlin and I love it! I've lost 65 pounds after having my little boy (who is almost 2 now) and I'm struggling with that last 10 pounds. ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog! Your weight loss is very encouraging! Thanks for the tips and information of how you did it!
ReplyDeleteAnd when you were at 170, you did NOT look it! That's the weight I am now, but my body is completely different than yours.. I look way bigger than you at 170 than you did! :)
Can't wait to read more. I need to do the 10 day herbal cleanse...
Hi!! I just came across your blog. I have a 9 month old and am still struggling with that extra baby belly. Your post is so encouraging and I plan to keep following along. I was wondering if you could share what cleanse you did as well as what protein shakes you use.
