I have been getting all kinds of health certifications for my new job (watch out Dr. Quinn-Medicine Woman). Earlier this week was CPR training, which consisted of 4 hours of pushing on a dummy’s chest then taking test that covered everything we didn’t learn during the 4 hours of pressing on a dummy’s chest.
The instructor’s favorite part was making people ask the dummy if they were “Ok.” Yes, I know you would do this in real life but asking a plastic half man if he is OK 85 times in front of a room of strangers is awkward.
At one point we practiced with the baby cpr dummy’s.
It was a bit creepy because it reminded me of Olive! This made things scary and weird for me. I felt like I was watching a room of people press on my baby!
The other great part of the class was our workbook. It taught us things like how to perform cpr on MLK jr.
So, next time you are having a heart attack or choking on a chicken bone, give me a call.

I have taken the CPR class twice and I still couldn't tell you what to do. I just can't retain emergency information!
ReplyDeleteThat picture made me laugh out loud. We had to do basic lifesaving in the Army and I remember asking "Are you OK?" over and over, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat new job?
Pressing on some dummy's chest? I'm wondering if I can sign my husband up for that job? He's a real big dummy :)
ReplyDeleteFYI Chris, those CPR certifications are very useful to have.
ReplyDeleteOn Christmas Day my now 5 month old stopped breathing (he was 6 weeks old then) and we had to perform CPR on his lifeless, blue body. Talk about SCARY.
I had NO IDEA how to do it on such a small baby.
They made me take a class at the hospital (he was admitted to the PICU for RSV) and I'm glad they did.
Now I will know how to do it if, heaven forbid, anything happens like that again!
But I agree, it is a little creepy.
When you wrote MLK Jr. I was wondering and then I saw the picture and laughed out loud. Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI've taken the class twice and I don't know that I could actually remember any of it either. I guess its probably something to take a refresher course on every so often. I hope I never have to use it.
ReplyDeleteOh, Holly! You know just how to make me smile!! :) thanks for the blog comment! You Rock!
