Pioneer Woman Dinner Party aka Fat Girl Potluck
My cousin Sara and I are such foodies.
When we were younger, our grandmother Maria {who we had to refer as "Aunt Toni" because she wanted people to think her and my mom were sisters}, told us in a thick Spanish accent, that we were not garbage disposals-- that we didn't need to eat everything in front of us.
I guess you can say that we have a love affair with food.
A few weeks ago we decided to get our family and friends together for a Pioneer Woman party. Every woman invited was to bring over a Pioneer Woman dish from her website or cookbook.
And let me just say, the girls did not disappoint.
To decorate for the party, I tried to use what I had laying around. After all, with two kids in daycare, I might as well be from the poor house.
I went to Wal-mart and found some fabric on clearance for $1/yard. Since I don't know how to sew, I bought some Liquid Stitch-- and it did the trick. So easy... you just line the edges with the liquid tube, fold, and iron. I was able to make a table cloth for two tables and a run for less than $10.
My cousin was able to borrow two long tables and twelve chairs from her church.
Chris' grandma, LeAnn, brought down all of the place setting and heavy silverware.
{I have 6 spoons and 3 forks.... I don't know where my utensils crawl and die}
I had Dollar Tree glass vases left over from a baby shower, so I put a sunflower in each one and placed them down the table.
My splurge was buying cloth napkins and then wrapping them with raffia, to give the table a country look.
On the menu:
Appetizers
Stuffed Mushrooms
Potato Skins
Olive Cheese Bread
Spinach Artichoke Dip
Salad
Greek Salad
Sides
Mashed Potatoes
Main Dishes
Peach Whiskey BBQ Chicken
Spicy Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Sliders
White Chicken Enchiladas
Desserts
Deep Dish Fruit Pizza {without the crust! :)}
Monkey Bread
Knock You Naked Brownies
Baklava
While I was cooking, cleaning, prepping, and decorating.... I told my sister, Noel, how I would love a friend like me. How nice would it be to come over to a Pioneer Woman party with a dish and just enjoy the party and decor.
As the party was winding down, all of the girls begin cleaning up, doing dishes, sweeping the floor, playing and changing my baby, etc. They let me just sit there and enjoy their company.
My heart and belly are full. And I may have die-a-betus.
