Hilarity Sandwich

Yesterday, I registered for the Go! St. Louis half marathon in April.

I'm running it with Melanie, Keyona, and Courtney.

I'm doing this for two reasons:

1. Everyone else is doing it.
2. I want one of those 13.1 stickers to put on the back of my car. Hey! Look me! I'm a runner!

It's also worth mentioning that I have never run a race in my life.

There was this one time when my BFF, Joan, was signed up to run a 5k with another friend. At the last minute, the other friend didn't show up, so Joan asked if I would do it with her. I had just lost 40 pounds after having Haven and thought... Sure!! Only to get there and they didn't have our shirts or packets. So Joan and I skipped the race and went and had a 3,000 calorie breakfast at Bob Evan's.

I have completed a training program for c25k, so that means I am good to go, right?

Today, over lunch, I am going to hit up the treadmill and see how far I can go without feeling like I am going to die. And that will be my starting point. I am thinking about two miles. I have five months to get this down... so knowing my procrastination, I will start training about St. Patrick's Day.

I'm also going to Tulsa in two weeks to see Mama L run her second half marathon. And seeing someone else do it totally counts as training, too. :)

In other news, Lora and Janessa are hosting a fun link up today... She wants to know "What does your blog name mean?"

I get this question a lot. Mainly because I have every name under the sun listed on my blog: Jack, Sally, Holly, Chris, Pumpkin, Haven, Glave, Dennis the Menace, Olive, Betty, Betty Lou, etc, etc.

"Where we can live like Jack and Sally" is a line from the Blink 182 song, "I Miss You."

The line goes... "Where we can live like Jack and Sally, if we want. Where you can always find me. And we'll have Halloween on Christmas. And in the night we'll wish this never ends. We'll wish this never ends."

It's in reference to the characters from the Nightmare before Christmas.

It's one of my favorite songs... and it was about as creative as I get when I first started this blog. I'll be interested to see how other people came up with their blog names.

---

And with that... I hope you all have a Happy Thursday!

  2. OMG! That's awesome! I would be so scared, but then again, I could never complete the Couch to 5K. You're going to be awesome! And I've always loved your blog name! Such a great idea.

  3. Go Holly!!! And Janessa...what in the world?!? I didn't know she had a blog. We live close to one another and used to play together when we were kids. She's one of my sis-in-laws BFFs. Small world!

  4. I'm totally proud of you for signing up!! I, too, want to be one of those people with the 13.1 stickers on their car! My goal is to complete one in 2013. And there are apps/programs out there to follow for half marathon training...No excuses, missy! :)

    1. Hey girl! I'll email you a picture of me and you can blow it up and put it on one of your posters so that it looks like I'm there cheering them on too! No, people won't think you are weird! No worries!

  7. I want one of those stickers for my car too, but the thought of running a half marathon scares the bezeejus out of me. I was reading over the race specs and thinking that was some serious shit. Maybe I can bribe three other people to run the relay with me, that sounds a little more doable.

I love that Blink 182 song, I knew what your blog name meant already!

  8. GO HOLLY!! I too want to smack one of those stickers on the back of my ride. Let's get it!

  9. Thanks so much for linking up! I love the background of your name.

And me and the BFF were literally talking about doing the St Louis half marathon yesterday! I just don't know if I am brave enough though. I want the 13.1 sticker though. We may actually do it if Lora isn't preggo.

And I just saw Lindsey's comment. Wow, what a small world!

  10. Yep love the Blog name and I instantly fell in love with you because of it. Blink 182 RULES - had tickets last year to see them - came down with pneumonia (worst day EVER) instead. Ugh...

I can't wait for the half - we are going to kill it - we NEED to get t-shirts made and BAM.. I signed my kit-kat butt up too today. WOOP!

  11. You can do it! I'm running my first half the end of April. My training starts this month. I have ran 2 5k's and have two more on the schedule. I was hoping to get a 10k in prior to April but I haven't seen any local ones yet!

  12. I never told u but I miss you was almost my wedding song! Because of the line 'where we can Live like jack and Sally if we want to...' Halloween and that movie in particular are my favorite. I have a huge painting of jack and Sally hung in my bedroom. I'm kinky like that ;)

We decided against that song and went with something a little more traditional. I knew everyone would think we were weirdos if that played as our first dance song. What can I say? I'm a conformist.

  13. First off how freaking awesome are you for signing up for that! Eeeeek wish I could be that motivated right now... I will NEVER forget when I did my first half on Thanksgiving day two years ago... even though I pretty much pick myself up off the ground once I crossed the finish line BUT it was so worth it. I cried. Yes, you bet your pretty little pants I so did! Best.feeling.ever. I should have trained more though... lesson learned! PS I love your explination of your blog name! Love love love that song =)

  15. I am a recent runner. I ran my first half marathon in San Diego in June and about to run my second one in Dallas in a few weeks and then I signed up for the Nike Women's Half Marathon in DC in April. I've been training with a group and the best advice I can give you is to train in run/walk intervals. I run 3 minutes and walk for 1. I've been doing this since February and I promise it makes running more bearable. You'd be amazed at how you can keep stamina up for the entire race. You can set any interval pacing you want...I know folks who do 4/1, 5/1, 2/2, but for me 3/1 works. And if you do the math, that's the same as running 75% of the race without running out of steam. It's also good for the metabolism b/c it allows your body to recover for short spurts so you can maintain pacing. I run with the Leukeimia Lymphoma Society's Team In Training and I love this training practice. Your time at the end of the race could be faster than if you ran the entire thing through.

Glad you signed up. I don't love running, but I am definitely one who found that it helps alleviate my stresses and it is easy to just knock out a couple of miles every few days during the week instead of slaving away at the gym or having to be coordinated in some sort of Zumba class.

    Best of luck,
    American Bridget

  16. Thanks for linking up with us!! ummm, Janessa and I are so joining you if I don't get knocked up. BUT I am trying my darndest...maybe we can come and cheer and I can be all fat and eat all the food while you run? I would still qualify for a 13.1 sticker, right?! Cause I am dying to earn {or buy if I get desperate} one of those dang things!

  17. I couldn't decide on "Just Another Blog" or "Landlocked Missouri" So if you look at my URL it says landlockmo or something like that. And the actual title of the blog is Just Another Blog because that just about sums it up.

Also, I want one of those stickers for the back of my car that says 0.0 and under the numbers it says 'I don't run'. That about sums it up for me :)

One of these days I might take up running............teeeheheheheheheh

And I swear every time you reveal a fact about yourself (your daughter's bday, your love of Busch) ... one of your favorite songs...I shout at my computer screen "ME TOO!!!" LoL, love that song, I listened to it on repeat in college ALL the time. Love your blog title, pretty mama!

  25. I always wondered where the title of your blog was from. My 6 yo daughter is obsesse with the nightmare before Christmas but I never put 2 and 2 together. I want a 13.1 sticker too! But I only walked that distance, I don't think I could run the .1! I also participated in the blogger swag swap per your recommendation and got my 'buddy' today!

  26. Go you! Just a warning: I know it sounds cRaZY, but you should know that you'll run this 13.1 and then totally be hooked. Like, you'll be hunting down the next closest half like a stinking addict.

  27. I always wondered what your blog name meant, but I just figured that it was something "everyone" knew and if I asked I would look like a total jack ass! But you explained it and I still don't know b/c I have no clue what song you are talking about! Yes, I'm a jack ass!
