Washing it was the worst. I would literally have so much hair strung through my fingers, that I had to rinse my hands over and over to leave the hair in piles.
This went on until about a month ago, a solid six months.
I didn't experience this hair loss with Haven. In fact, I felt like my hair got thicker, longer afterwards.
I was trying to think about the differences in myself after bringing them home. I nursed Haven for months, until my pump broke at work, and I saw sweet freedom for the summer.
Fact: I can be really selfish.
I nursed Olive a whole three weeks, until we all four got sick, for the third time, within a month. At that point, I just wanted to hole up in a hotel
Anyway, I don't know where this came from... But I am now left with chunks of adifferentkindofhairthatidontwanttosayontheblog on my forehead, around my ears, and across the back of my neck.
See Exhibit A.
I can't even wear a pony tail because I look like one of those kids from 6th grade that shaved the back of their head and wore a ponytail. {Only my trashy school?}
So I went to get my hair done on Saturday and my stylist wouldn't color my hair because of the breakage. She doesn't even want me to blow dry it, let alone use my 300 degree gold iron on my strands.
Instead, I am going to rock the hippie look for the next few weeks.... or Darci's version of Lazy Girl Curls, meaning wearing my hair to bed wet and just spraying some fun in the morning.
And while you're over there cracking up from the sass in her vlog, be sure to check out her whole page HERE. She is has a dry sense of humor, which is about 90% sarcasm and 10% charm.

Have you experienced postpartum hair loss? Did it grow back the same? Did you walk around with what appeared to be pubes across your hair line? Did I just take these questions too far?

I am going through this myself! An you may remember the red hair coloring situation a few weeks ago.... Sigh. I'm a hot mess.
ReplyDeleteThis is y first baby though, so I don't know how long this will continue. But I sure hate it!
Went through it too!! It didn't happen too much with B but with Evie, I lost massive amounts of hair. Like, I had a bald spot. I was so embarrassed. It's starting to finally come back but it's a lot courser. I hate it so much!!
ReplyDeleteI'm no doctor... Hell, I'm not even a baby nurse yet... But isn't the hair loss post-partum hormone related? Could you possibly have some sort of hormone imbalance that is affecting the hair follicles? I have no idea... But that's what popped into my head.
ReplyDeleteMy school also had the trashy folks who shaved the under side of their pony tail. And it was boys AND girls. And there was even one kid who shaved one side of his head, but the other side was really long. And he wore it combed over... Donald Trump meets Sk8r Boi if you will.
You still look beautiful rocking the Darci lazy curls! My hair is so stick straight (aka LIMP) that I could never rock lazy girl curls. If I go to bed with a wet head and scrunch gel in... I'd look like that little girl coming out of the well in The Ring. Yikes!
I have to say that I love the Darci curls... I never went through this - wish my hair would thin out though; but evenly. My feet grew.. they grew a half size with 1st kid and another half size with 3rd kid. Really stupid.. any chance it's just because I gained so much weight and they will go back to normal once I drop 50 pounds? We can hope!!! Some hope to fit skinny jeans; I hope to fit into my old cute shoes.
ReplyDeleteI am dealing with it right now too! 5 month post baby... Super Duper annoying... If i have to go another 5 months with it happening I will so annoyed.
ReplyDeleteBahamas did I go to far? I lost a ton of hair while pregnant an after Owen, once I chopped it off it has done somewhat better.
ReplyDeleteLove these curls! Super young and fresh
I love the Darci curls! Do you have problems with the hair at your roots drying funny when you sleep with it wet? I have to flat iron my hair in the morning because my hair dries so crazy!
ReplyDeleteMy hair still sheds like crazy and Emmeline is 2 1/2. I don't have breakage or bald spots fortunately since my hair is pretty thick, but I do have a nice little hairball in the shower drain every morning. Lovely. The lazy day curls are very cute on you. I always get a weird hump in my hair if I go to bed with it wet.
ReplyDeleteSweet Lord. I am losing so much hair is't unsettling. Like, the people at Drano need to send me a nice holiday basket. And I just loooove how wiry and gray my new baby hairs are deciding grow back. I've thought more than once, that if I lived back in the days where selling your hair was a nice little commodity, I would have been the richest lady in all the land. Then they didn't have drugs during childbirth yet.....or toilets. So, it's a toss up.
ReplyDeleteWHOA- I didn't even know this could happen!I'm so sorry this happened to you! I fried the crap out of mine when I was dying it blonde, and wasn't even allowed to brush it (comb only) at one point. It was a disaster, breaking off all around my face and at the base of my neck. Thankfully, hair can make a quick recovery :) You look gorgeous all the same- love the lazy girl curls, and where did you get that cardigan?! I love a damask print! Happy Monday Holly!
ReplyDeleteI lost more hair with the first baby. With the second baby....I had postpartum depression as well. (didn't with the first). My hair started growing like crazy. I was all of the sudden growing bangs! and very long strands on the side of my head....almost like sideburns! yikes! I haven't noticed it falling out this time around though! usually that stops by 6 months or so I thought?!?! hmmm. But, I love the look you have with the curls!!! I may try it just because!! lol
ReplyDeleteI have experienced losing chunks of hair but it was before and after children! I just got it chopped off, so I will stay on my head for a couple of weeks until it starts falling out again! But your hair looks super cute the Darci way!
ReplyDeleteOh girl I had it terrible after Wesley - terrible. I cried for months. I thought it would get better to just die the shi* out of it - but it didn't - it got worse. I had clumps clogging up my drain. SICK... Finally I quit dyeing it and started to take pre-natal vitamins again and it got back to normal. I FINALLY feel like it is back to normal. Ugh... I can't stand when that happens. Hugs to you. I know how it feels to have your hair fall out. On the plus size that sweater is adorable and your curls are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI had this after my second, but not my first baby! I thought something was wrong with me, till I googled it. Our shower looked like I shaved my head. Long strands everywhere, it was horrible. It still does it 9 months later, but thank goodness not as bad and those adorable bald spots I rocked, are now starting to fill back in.
ReplyDeleteHope it gets better for you, but the messy curls look cute on you :)
Holly you are freaking adorable! I love the hair like that... So sorry your hair is falling out I have NEVER had that happen before?! Even if I did I have enough to lose! Hope it goes away soon :(
ReplyDeleteHey Girl! I had the same thing happen after BOTH kids..you think I have a ton of hair now, you should have seen it pre-babies! I will mock what Mel said, I started taking pre-natal vitamins again after my hair started falling out in CHUNKS around 3 months post partum with Norah - it seemed to settle down by 5 months and I've just had my normal shedding since then!
ReplyDeleteI love the LCGs you are rocking! It looks super cute! And thanks for the awesome shout out Sista!
I lost hair with both babies and I only nursed my oldest for six month. I'm still nursing eve at 22 months and hair still comes out in fair amounts. Not clumps but its thinning. And I too have weird baby hairs that have a life of their own on my hairline. And they're lighter in color. I need to start taking probiotics and fish oil again bc I think that would help.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, the things that our bodies go through for our babies! Sorry you have to deal with this... BUT, your hair looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteMy hair did that too, actually it is just now starting to not and my baby is 9 months old. It was disgusting how much of my hair would come out in the shower. Also, I was totally one of those apparently trashy kids who shaved the under side of their hair in middle school, I did it because my hair was so thick that my rubber band would snap while playing soccer and I would be stuck with my hair down for the rest of the game, it sucked. So I shaved the underneath to make it thinner. Which my hair is still really thick so for me losing chunks after having a baby is kind of nice. Mine has been growing back kind of wavy, I hope yours grows back beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI love your lazy girl curls! I didn't have that problem with Cooper, but after I lost all of that weight so quickly this year, my hair fell out like crazy for several months and isn't really growing back too much yet. I used to have really full, thick hair, and now, it is super thin. My doctor told me it was because I put a lot of stress on my body by losing weight so quickly. Maybe that's what happened to you, having Olive put that stess on your body. My doctor assures me that it will grow back, so I'm hoping that's sooner rather than later!
ReplyDeleteNo kiddos yet, but I just wanted to interject that your hair looks ADORABLE with the "lazy girl curls". I have stick straight boring hair so I am totally jelly that your hair looks like that, mine would take 8 lbs of hairspray and 2 hours of curling iron time. Love it! Hope it grows back soon, are you taking Biotin? It is supposed to be great for stronger hair :)
ReplyDeleteI shed like a persian kitten. I have always been that way. I never noticed a change after I had my kids because it's always a lot. After I blow dry and staighten my hair there is enough hair in my sink for a wig or two.
ReplyDeleteI love your hippie hair. I think it looks super adorable. And your on your way to HEALTHY!HAIR! yay! hope you had a good weekened lover.
I've always shed a lot of hair, too...and that's without child birth - I've noticed mine sheds more during certain seasons. LOL. I have those short hairs on the back of my neck and around my ears, I HATE it! Especially on the back of my neck. And no, that wasn't just your school with the shaved back head nastiness going on - why would girls ever do that anyways?! If you have thick hair, God forbid, layer it people!!
ReplyDeleteIf you're not taking a multi-vitamin, definitely start. Prenatal vitamins are great for hair (I'm sure you know this already), and also B vitamins and biotin. I take a multi vitamin, and Stress-B Complex...fun stuff that turns your pee neon yellow and reminds me to drink more H2O. :D
Yes! I am so sorry that you're going through this! I lost a ton of hair and now I have baby hairs growing back...I look a little ridiculous bc the new hair is coming in curly, and it's too small to get with the flat iron! I've been drinking Zija and retaking prenatal vitamins, which seems to help with thickening my hair and making the new hair grown in more quickly! Good luck! I do think your lazy curls are super cute!!!
ReplyDeleteyup horrible with both kids, i hate all these damn baby hairs... i have a really great set at each side burn so i look like i have actually HAVE sideburns... sexy
ReplyDeleteyes, clumps fell out in the shower..i have baby "pubes" sticking out all over!
ReplyDeleteit is $$ but kerastase line of products is the only one that has helped
Oh my gosh I am going through this right now too!! My son is 8 1/2 months and I stopped shedding hair about 2 months ago. However what I have been left with is not okay! My hair was my pride and joy. I had Pantene Pro V looking hair my whole life. No frizz just long straight dark silky hair. Now I look like I touched one of those static balls I have so many curly ( looks like pubes) frizzies all over my head. And to make matters worse when I went to put my hair in a pony tail today I noticed those hairs you were talking about that look like I shaved under my hair and now it's growing back! Soooo gross! I mean come on, if I have to work my ass off to lose all this weight can't I at least have pretty hair! All that to say your not alone I feel your pain. Oh ya and my hair stylist said its not broken hairs it's new hair growing in from all the hair that I lost after pregnancy!
ReplyDeleteOK, first of all, that really sucks. But at least you discovered a new way to do your hair that not only looks fabulous but also probably saves a bunch of time!
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm going to go and find something to divert my attention so I can forget this post. Forgetting that moms lose hair after delivering is going to be crucial to me sticking to this whole "have kids someday" plan.
Sorry Girlie! I had this happen with my 2nd child, but I think it was because I had Mirena put in at my 6 week checkup. I know it had something to do with the hormones, but I literally thought I was going to go bald, and nevermind how disgusting my sink was....
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday...
Yep, definitely had the hair loss after both kids. I even clogged the shower drain from so much hair going down. It will grow back, might be a little different texture tho. My sister had a completely bald spot above her one ear when she lost her hair after giving birth, it's all grown back in now. Mine goes in my temples the worst. My hair is thinner now than it was before having 2 kids, but I had a ton so the loss isn't a big deal for me. Just be patient, maybe try Mama's secret nail and hair growing weapon (can't remember the name of the vitamin off the top of my head, but I bet if you ask her she'll tell you). I think it starts w/ a b???
ReplyDeleteRhett is 7 months and I have been shedding like a dog since he was 4 months old. I could have probably made a few wigs out of my sheds by now! So gross. I've been lucky to not get the baby hairs, but I do have some chunks of breakage, one in particular that is chronically falling out of my ponytail and making me crazy.
ReplyDeleteI totally had this with Madi, weird shit growing by my forehead, ugh. Pregnancy sucks. PS I LOOOOOOOOOOVE your shirt!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOk so I never went through the hair loss with baby 1 but now I'm scared for 2! I wish my hair would look like yours and darcis if I went to bed with wet hair lucky biotches!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel selfish about the nursing thing at all you're a great mama!
Have you asked the doc about your hair loss?
Toodle loo love!
Hi holly! I've been a follower now for about a month but have just been creeping till now. Sorry. :) anyway, I love your LGCs. Super cute! I also wanted to give you good news. It's not breakage....it's new growth! The difference with breakage and new growth is breakage sticks up. So you should be to the end of this hair battle. Although there will always be more. I'm a stylist. I know! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteEEEeeeekkk! I haven't experienced that yet. I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall or hair, I should say. Atleast what you got is lookin' cute!
ReplyDeleteYes! I totally have the same little nubbins left where my once thick locks were! And, to my own detriment, I always wear my hair up so it is always exposed! Terrible. Anyway, that's why I'm thinking of cutting all mine off so I have no choice but to wear it down to cover up the crazy hair! Your hair looks great like that though so hopefully it gives it the break it needs!
ReplyDeleteGirl my hair is still falling out and its been 9 months! I wanted to cut my hair really short for a while just so I didn't have to see all of it in the sink, shower, on my brush, comb and all over my towel when I dried it. So superrrrr depressive-ville! When I went to get my hair done last month the girl told me to take Biotin. So I take that now along with my prenatal vitamins (they help me so much still!) And my B6 and B12. I am hoping in the next month I will start seeing a change because I hate it. It makes me feel sooo fugly. You look beautiful with your LGC :)
ReplyDeleteCHUNKS girl!!! I feel ya...
ReplyDeleteI did go through this. I had such lush long locks while preggers, but as soon as he popped, poof! it was gone! It has come back evenly, but not as thick. That's ok though because I have a lot of hair. Too funny though. Love your posts.
ReplyDeleteLove the lazy girl curls, I need to try this. except i look cray cray in the mornings. not sure spray gel would help. haha.
ReplyDeleteLosing hair O.o??? I lose gobs of it just showering and no baby to blame...However you look awesome with the lazy girl curls!!!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!!! After Weston my first I had the same problem. I didn' gain thickness while pregnant so I ddn't have extra hair to be losing on my thin head of hair (the only thin thing bout me). Purelogy helped me TONS. Its spendy but so worth it. Also I love love love your hair in the picture curly. I would so do that if my hair looked as cute as yours Holly. Oh by the way breastfeed Weston a year and it still happened.
ReplyDeleteI honestly didn't even know that there was such a thing. Your hair looks cute all hippy-chickish, though.
ReplyDeleteI just went through the same thing after having Caleb. I got out of the shower one morning and cried about it to Brian. I started googling wigs and extensions it was so bad. Lol! It literally came out in huge clumps when I showered. It started growing back during the summer. My hair is really fine and straight as a board so it stuck straight up around my forehead area. It's still all different lengths but as long as its growing back I don't care. I went back on prenatal vitamins and I swear it helped. I think your hair looks very cute in the pic you posted today. :)
ReplyDeleteI had a little bit of postpartum hair loss with Jackson. I even had to use draino on the shower drain because it was causing a back-up! Thankfully it didn't last long.
ReplyDeleteMy finger is tired from scrolling down through your comments. Your hair always looks amazing and I like your curls. I can't imagine what this mop would look like if I went to bed with it wet. I lost a ton of hair after the babes {and had the night sweats which equally freaked me out} and can relate to the baby hair that fills in. As for the pube texture, well...all I can say is welcome.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! You totally get me! I am four months pp with number two...I feel like my male-pattern-baldness head just recovered after baby number one, and now I'm freaking losing it all over again....over my temples, across the top of my head....can't wear my hair in a ponytail because you can see my scalp through my thinning hair. If postpartum depression isn't an issue for you, the balding will bring it on! :(

ReplyDeleteI''m dealing with this now. 3rd child and he's 18mths. Every time I shower or comb it I have enough hair loss for a baby wig. Disgusting I know. Gaaa. Started taking prenatals again so I hope that helps. I might have to get some rogain or hair plugs if this continues. Oh and I'm loving the whispys or what I call birds coming out if my hair line. Awesome(High pitch voice) good luck your curls look super cute!
ReplyDeleteHolly. It's me. You're me. Im so glad you brought this out in the public. My balding has left me with not only forehead pubes for days, but also the worst case of grow-out roots from hell. I call it Mombre. Like Ombre, but not trendy. I remember losing hair with Rogue, but not THIS much. Now I'm 7 months out with Rawlins and I want to cry every time I pick his newly crawling booty up off the floor and have to untangle 452987 hairs from his sweaty clammy little paws. Let's start a support group. Ive been to see my doctor about it. Twice. The second time with a ziplock baggy full of the morning's harvest from my bathroom floor. PRRREETTTTTYYYYYYYY! Please make it stop.
ReplyDeleteI think the new do looks good! Maybe after some practice and the right products for you, you'll end up loving it and loving the EASE and practicality of it, as well!! :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAhhh...postpartum hormonal issues! Don't you just love them!?! Thank goodness we have cute babies to show for it! Ha ha! I am just now getting my normal hair back and my daughter is 15 months old! I did start taking an all-natural supplement that has worked WONDERS! I would HIGHLY recommend HAIR ESSENTIALS to anyone who is suffering from hair loss or just plain thinning hair. My hair is now shiny, thick, lush and growing like a weed (although I have to color it more now! :). It is an herbal supplement...so I wouldn't recommend taking it while nursing, but I absolutely LOVE this product. It is available here. (Scroll to the bottom to read the reviews ... they are amazing!)

I had hairloss so, so bad after I had Crewe and it seriously lasted about 10 months! I thought I was going to be bald by the end of it. It eventually stopped. Thank goodness I had way to much hair to start with but now I hate all the little hairs that are growing back ESPECIALLY around my hairline on my forehead! HATE IT.
ReplyDeleteOk so confession time, I shave parts of my hairline with a razor, yes a razor you would use on your legs. All that new hair gets all curly and frizzy when I want my hair straight and I loathe it, so the logical thing is to shave it off, right??? ;-)
the post is giving information about post partum hair loss.
