Shortcuts

This weekend, I was a victim of shortcuts. One my fault. One the fault of Kohl's.

We'll get my one out of the way. I left clothes in the washer too long. Maybe three days too long, but I am not for sure because the middle of my week is always a blur. Friday night, I started sorting laundry and switching it around. I throw in the clothes from the washer, which were practically dry at this point, into the dryer.

They reek of swamp ass.

I knew they were mildew-y. I knew it. But instead, I threw in 12 sheets of Bounce thinking that it would do the trick and fluff them into magically smelling clean clothes. I think the heat of the dryer made it worse. The smell intensified. When I was folding them, I started tossing pieces back into the dirty clothes pile. Then, my lazy self put the rest of the not-so-bad ones away.

And all weekend, those were the clothes that we wore... Or clothes that were hanging/folded next to other clothes, which subsequently smell rancid now. So tonight, I will be re-washing everything we own.

And Kohl's? What did they ever do to me?

Last week, I bought 3 sets of these super cute "etched" glasses. They were "etched" in polka dots and vintage stripes. I immediately came home, rinsed them off, threw all of my old glasses away, and restocked the cabinets with these beauties.

Over the weekend, a few of them went through the dishwasher. And that "etching" isn't so etched. The glasses have started peeling plastic. My only dilemma is that I threw the boxes away-- and probably the receipt. I am going to dig around for that today... or go up in there Big Holly style.

I pulled up the website because I was thinking that maybe the box said that these weren't dishwasher safe... But nope.

Do you think Kohl's will take these back without a receipt and box? Or will I be rinsing the rest by hand until I splurge again?

Cheers to a Happy Monday! I hope to find some normal smelling clothes and my Kohl's receipt. :)

  1. OMG... We must be related. Because I always have to rewash the last load of laundry. Always. I always forget and then when I do laundry the next time, I cuss myself because there is a load of stinky mildew towels in the washer...

You shouldn't have a problem with Kohls. They take everything back. If you happened to use a Kohls card, then it should be easy peasy. Even if you didn't, you should be okay.

    Happy Monday!

  2. I am pretty sure kohls will take them back. They have the best return policy on the planet. I'm convinced. I worked there before Tim and I got married and I would have taken them back! Good luck!

  3. Kohls has a no question return policy supposedly. Aww, we'd all left laundry in too long. I just run the washer again...put some of the downy unstopables or something like that (I was sent a sample) and run the washer again. If you have a front loader then just clean it out afterwards. I don't do it often because as a kid my mom did it every load...so I always smelled like swamp!

  4. I have never returned anything to Kohls but have always been totally curious if it really is no hassle!
Look forward to your return post!
    And those glasses.....utter bullshit!
    Happy Monday, Holly

  5. I would bring those RIGHT back. Along with the print-out of the webpage saying they are dishwasher safe. That's ridiculous. And if they won't take them, MAKE them take them!

  6. I had to do a kohls return recently, thought it wouldn't be bad since they have a new "no hassle" policy they have blabbed all over tv. nope. it was plenty of hassle.
    good luck.

  7. I have a friend who works for Kohl's.... I think you should be okay without a receipt. If the person at the register gives your trouble ask to see the manager.... it is their store policy that when a customer asks a question about a coupon (even if it's expired) or a return they have to say "yes we can!" Good luck!!

  8. Good to know that I'm not the only one that leaves laundry in the washing machine for days at a time. In fact, I did the same thing you did. I washed some towels on Tuesday or Wednesday and on Saturday when I went to load up the washing machine I realized that I had left them in there way too long. The smell was rancid. So on goes the hot water and added some vinegar to the wash and they now smell as good as new. Well, maybe not new but better than they did before.

  9. Heck yeah they'll take them back and if they start to say something you sure better go up in there Holly style! They were obviously misrepresented or are defective. And my husband used to do that to our laundry too and then blame me. Ugghhh it's the worst smell ever!

  10. Khols takes back everything! No questions asked...other than ma'am do you have a receipt? We redry our laundry so much they shrink to fit my daughters American girl so then we have to go to khols to buy more clothes!

  11. Womp womp. I think that Kohls has great customer service and will fix you right up! I mean, who even makes NON dishwasher safe things these days?

  12. I always seem to leave the towels in the washer for an extra day or two...always re-wash, but I've been known to forget about them again & have to re-wash for a 3rd time...Ahhh! Love Kimmy, she's a DOLL!

  13. I think every mom forgets to put some laundry in dryer. Like we have nothing else important to think about or do! :) And Kohl's is known for a really generous return policy so I think you'll be okay. That is no good when things don't last a day. Points for trying to be stylish though!

  14. I forget about my laundry in the washer all the time! I get so mad that I have to end up rewashing it but that's what I get for being lazy! In fact I'm pretty sure there's a load in there now from early yesterday morning! UGH!!!

Yea I would be pretty upset about the glasses! I would at least go and give it a try!

  15. Don't worry-Kohl's should take them back-no questions asked. The only issue may be that they'll give you the lowest sales price, but if you happened to put it on a Kohl's card you won't have that problem. Good luck!

  16. Take them back.. they will take them back... Love me some Kimmy too.

  17. Womp!!! I hate Kohls. I hope they help you out! In my experience they are hard to work with. Hope your day turns around Holly!

  18. For sure I'd bring them back. You threw the box away because you believed that they weren't printing LIES on the box. They can deal with it. I brought a dress back after a year, no bag and no receipt. The tags WERE on it but not even a dirty look. Go for it and also ask them to stop lying!

  19. I can totally relate to this post!! I'm infamous for buying something and having it go bad a week or two after I bought it. I usually throw it away. Money down the tubes....take them back though. What's the worst that could happen?

I'm so excited that I won the giveaway! Thanks so much Holly!! Can't wait to get my girl a rockin new shirt!

  20. I would definitely try to take the glasses back....you should at least be able to get a store credit or something without the receipt! I can totally relate to the laundry issue! I am known to leave clothes in the washer as well. In turn my whole laundry room smelled awful for weeks, until I finally febreezed, and did enough laundry that made it smell good again!

  21. Kohl's will take them back... with or without a receipt. They take back ANYTHING. If you used your Kohl's charge, they can look up the purchase, I'm sure. If not, they'll still take it back. I recently returned a shirt to LOFT because it shrank to the size of 2T. I VERY carefully followed washing instructions, too. I'm pretty sure everything is made UBER cheap these days. Quality is hard to find.

  22. I leave laundry in the washing machine more often than I'd care to admit...you're not alone!

  24. I used to work at Kohl's a long long long time ago and we seriously took EVERYTHING back...even stuff we didn't sell (Victoria's Secret pj pants, anyone?) but yeah...I really don't think you will have a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  25. My stuff is blowing up thanks to you lady!!!:-)

I would totally return them and then if they have you trouble say don't make me blog about this! Haha

  26. I have been there with the wash too. Like Ashley Martin said, I run vinegar through on the fabric softener rinse/dispenser and they smell clean again! If they have a faint vinegar smell when they come out of the washer, toss that dryer sheet in while they dry. I would be embarrassed to tell you how many times I've had to use this method:)
About Kohl's, they do take back all kinds of things, but I really wanted to tell them where to stick my return this weekend. Their policy seemed completely unreasonable. However, I did save a lot of money by refusing to buy anything else there Saturday!

  27. Oh thank gosh! I am so glad to know that Im not the only who forgets the laundry. Hey - it's not easy to take care of children, and a husband, a home and work. Don't sweat it!

    Adorable blog :)

  28. Take those glasses back! That's ridic! They have some "No questions asked" return policy. The laundry situation is an often occurence at my house, too!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh I have done that with clothes before. Now I NEVER leave them in the washer no matter what because I eventually just had to throw some clothes away, they never smelled the same! Did you purchase it off of a Kohl's account, maybe they still have record of it?

    ReplyDelete
  30. If you used a debit/credit card they can pull up your receipt to verify the purchase and aside from that, they take back anything and everything anyway. Take those back and get some good glasses!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hate finding a stinky towel in the linen closet. I have to rewash everything in there. I would definitely take those glasses back to Kohl's. If nothing else, you should get store credit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'd throw Kohl's "no hassle returns" in their face. It worked for me once. They weren't going to let me return something I'd bought with Kohl's cash. It all worked out though when I reminded them of this return policy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Take those back to Kohls! They are supposed to take anything back, no questions asked. If you get pushy they will comply!

Ugh I do that with my towels sometimes....if they are really bad add a cup of vinegar to the water, it will get rid of the mildew pronto! (Your towels won't smell like vinegar either!)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I say taken them in and say, "Would you make your children drink plastic on purpose?" with tears in your eyes. Academy Award will follow with hopefully a refund.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have a friend who works at Kohl's. If you have a problem let me know and she'll pull some stripes off your cups....I mean. Whatever.

Anyway, they make a big deal about no hassle returns which means any Hoosier can bring back anything and they give you a merchandise credit with a smile.

  36. Been there and done that plenty of times with the laundry. I just always rewash. Ha! Hope Kohl's will take the glasses back. It's def worth a try!

  37. Sooo glad to hear I'm not the only one who tries the "12 sheets of Bounce" trick. And I'm not afraid to admit that I've also done the "buy new socks to avoid doing a load of laundry" trick. Ok, fine, I admit it- I may have done the same thing with underwear. Back in college. When I was young and stupid and lazy, obvi ;)

  38. Thanks for posting about me :) I got a ton of pageviews from your blog yesterday! To say I am hooked on sponsoring you is an understatement!!

  39. I'm with ya on the Subway thing. I went there for lunch last week and brought the smell back to work. GROSS!

As for the alcohol on a man's breath....One of the things I remember about a hookup I had with a crush of mine in High School...is the smell of beer on his breath when he first kissed me. Silly, yes....but true.

  40. Kohl's will totally take back those glasses. They have an awesome return policy. And if by chance you purchased them using your Kohl's charge they will look it up and tell you exactly what you paid for it! I love Kohl's. But that's a bummer about the etching coming off. We had that happen with a coffee mug we bought at Disney World. After only one washing, we can now look back and remember that we paid $20 for what is now a plain blue coffee mug. Awesome.

  41. Kohl's is easier to return stuff than Walmart and those people take ANYTHING back! I didn't have the receipt for something I took back at Kohls but they were able to look it up in their system because I knew about when I purchased it. Good thing too because I got back my full refund instead of the price it was on sale for on the day I returned it. Of course...if all else fails, go Big Holly style up in there and they will start slapping a label on those things!

  42. I have probably already commented this in the past, but it cracks me up each and every time you refer to yourself as Big Holly.
