Smells

Of all of my senses, my sense of smell is probably the strongest.

I can smell BS and the Scentsy block that you had burning in your house on your clothes at work.

When I was pregnant, it was the death of me. The smell of Chris's car, the smell of his body, the smell of a drink, etc could send me over the edge into Vomit Hell.

I bring this up because Olive is in her a new classroom at school, where the teachers burn those Scentsy things on a counter all day. It's the same scent. I would assume that they call this probably a "seashore" scent and my guess is that it probably some light blue wax resembling the ocean water.

When I walk into the classroom, I am knocked out by the smell. But I won't say anything because I love Olive's new teacher and she probably does it for her own sanity. Who wants to smell shitty diapers and pissy pants all day from 8 babies?

But now Olive doesn't smell like Olive anymore. She smells like this waxy, god-awful seashore scent.

When did she stop smelling like milk? I missed that passing. Where I would nuzzle her warm neck and her little breath would knock me into Baby Heaven.

Which brings me to Good Smells and Bad Smells. Let's play this game shall we?

Good Smells:
Alcohol on a man's breath. White-trash Holly comin' out.
The pink baby lotion.
New shower curtain liner. Mmmm plastic.
Gasoline. I don't mind if a little is on my hands afterwards.
Coffee brewing. I don't drink coffee but I love the smell.
Babies. Warm, milky babies, with lots of fat rolls.
Pinesol. The old school kind.
Chlorine at a water park.

Bad Smells:
Subway. Barf City. Why does it smell so bad? Why do I smell it on me when I leave?
Fruit Punch. I hate the smell of punch. Yes, it has a smell.
Nutella. I know I am alone here.
Chocolate stores. Again, I am all by myself.
Chris's car to this day
CATS. CATS. CATS.

What are some of your good and bad smells?

Do you guys know Rachel from {simply little joys}? She is one of my favorite bloggers and instagramers (rachdillard). She is hosting a big giveaway on her blog for a $50 gift certificate to Kiki La Rue. While you are over there, please check out her weight loss tab. You will be so inspired by her progress. She really is a gorgeous person inside and out. Check out her blog HERE.

Another blog favorite is Ashleigh from Life in Bloom. She lives in Florida  but is originally from Illinois. It wasn't until we became facebook friends, that we realized we grew up an hour away from each other.. and have a few mutual friends. She is running the Nike half marathon in a couple of months.... and I would give my right arm for her skinny legs. Check out her blog HERE.

And last but not least, my girl Lindsey from A Plane Doctor, His Nurse, and 3 Little Passengers. Lindsey is that mom that kind of does it all. She has a hard working husband, she is a nurse, has some cute kids, and still rocks an awesome bod. I need to get on her level. And she is one of the nicest blogger's around. Please go check out her blog HERE.

PS- My girls Laura and Mel are hosting a linkup today on favorite work out clothes. You know I am a sucker for a linkup, but I work out in Chris's old clothes. Womp womp. But head to their blogs and check out some good stuff.

  1. The only smell we have in common is a dislike of car smells. All cars stink to me. Drives me crazy. Oh and dogs too. I have 2 of them so I am shit out of luck on that one...haha

  2. Hmmm... I guess hospital or nursing homes. Just that stale nasty death smell. I'm with you in the chocolate stores. While I adore chocolate...chocolate stores are rank.

  3. I JUST LOVE YOU! Thanks for the shout out, sweet friend. What would I do without you? THIS is why I love this blogging world!

And scents...can't stand an overpowering scent. I do LOVE how gasoline smells. So weird, but I think it's everyone's guilty pleasure scent. Can't stand cats and Subway. Totally understand those. And you know what's weird? I work in a hospital and yet still cannot stand the smell. I have to change clothes and shower as soon as I get home or it bugs me to death!

  4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the smell of Pine-Sol. When I was pregnant I had cups of it sitting around my house, sometimes I would even pour it in a coffee cup and just hold it up to my nose. Weirdo, I know.

  6. OMG I agree with you times 10 about Subway, gag worthy. Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy when I freak out about it. I also hate bleach - like I can NOT handle it.

I do love the pink baby lotion - good call!

  9. I have a crazy awesome sense of smell too! Its a blessing and also a curse. My good smells are: laundry(duh), sharpies and the vacuum when its running. My bad smells are: the sponge in the sink, dirty laundry and ANY air freshener.

  10. I think we have the same good smells, and why the heck does Subway always smell like booty?!! Gross!

  11. I love the smell of freshly mown grass in the summertime, heavenly. Wet dog smell is horrendous as well as any air freshener that claims an "ocean breeze" scent. Gag.

  12. My car is next to cats????

I won't even mention your "smells"

  13. I'm the victim of a good "smeller" too. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's not. I feel your pain! I share the love of the smell of gasoline. I also enjoy the smell of burning diesel. :O

  14. I don't know if we can be friends anymore if you don't like the smell of chocolate or Nutella! :) Yum! I am the same about coffee- love the smell, not the drink. Glad Olive has a great new teacher!

  15. I'll second you on the Subway thing! Ugh! SO disgusting! I'd also add: Axe body spray (and really, any cheap scent used by teenage boys to mask their B.O.), Um B.O., and instant hand sanitizer. Sometimes bad smells give me a head ache!

  16. I'm with you on the chocolate smell... gross. But I love the smell of Subway- their bread smells amazing. My all-time favorite smell = a hardware store. I think it's maybe the smell of sawdust or something? Idk maybe I'm weird

I have a super sensitive nose so I can identify :)

  20. My taste buds are like that! If something like meat has been frozen, I can taste the plastic. It was awful when I was pregnant! I couldn't pack anything in those plastic sandwhich baggies. My sense of smell kinda sux (probably has something to do with my dad being a smoker and puffin' away in front of us when we were younger...)

  26. I'm with you with the gasoline and coffee smells. I don't drink coffee, but I do love walking into a Starbucks because it smells so yummy.
But I'm not with you the chocolate store one! I'd be in my glory if my house smelled like chocolate (I'd also probably be very chubby haha)

  30. I am heartbroken! You don't drink coffee???? I live almost purely off coffee! And beer, of course. I do agree with a lot of the smells you listed - though cats smell fine its the litter thats disgusting! I will tell you that the worst smell is my golden retrievers ears if she has been near water. GROSS. Requires constant cleaning. Ack! My hubbys car is also disgusting smelling. What is it with guys cars???

  33. Good smells: my son's hair after a bath, freshly sharpened pencils, cumin, the smell of sage in Nevada after it rains, the first time you walk outside your house in the fall and smell someone's woodburning fireplace in the air

Bad smells: my husband after drinking Scotch (that spicy scent leaks from his pores. ew.), a man's breath after smoking a cigar, dirty refrigerators, dirty produce sections in grocery stores, car exhaust, old people who don't bathe on the regular, when people microwave fish for lunch at work

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh my goodness...alcohol on a man's breath! Hahahaha!!

I have a really strong sense of smell too. New shower curtain liner, I had no idea other people like plastic smell like I do. I hate the smell of fish and my brother in law, oh man does he stink. Ick.

  35. Good: Sweaty Baby feet, and baby heads. Gasoline (HOLLA!). Fresh asphault. Hay fields in the summer.

Bad: Big boy feet, (Rogue recently turned this corner and it makes me s-a-d.) ANY type of food smelly candle. For the sake of your gag reflex I'm going to use my manners and just say that I am a mammogram tech, so um, yeah, some funk up in this bizz.

  36. You crack me up and get me thinking, but I am blank! I will think of several in the next few days though and will update my comment accordingly. I obviously need to put more thought into smells. I am out on Scentsy though, for sure.

  37. First thanks for the sweet shout out! I lurv you! I gave you one a couple Sundays ago! Ok...so I had no idea that so many people agreed that Subway smells awful! Ugh, gag!!! I like the smell of white out and that glue that comes in the brown bottle, oh and gasoline and diesel. Is that a sign of some type of nutritional defeciency? Lol!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mmmm....gasoline. And rubber cement.

    ReplyDelete
  39. haha girl you are the most random chick ever. I love it. I do miss the baby milk smell though, best smell in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  40. bahaha! Also bad smells: Vicks that stuff is funk, winter green livesavers...gag me with a spoon, ugh. Maybe you should see if you can find a milk scented scentsy bar/knock off for a "just because" gift for the classroom :) Now that I think about it, I think they have something like baby scent or something weird like that. And one of the scents smells like the pink bottle baby lotion. If I could remember what it was called, I would let you know.

  41. My favorite smells are baking bread, brewed coffee (don't drink it either) and lemon. I am aware that these are all food smells. I'm having a difficult time even coming up with smells I like that aren't food related.

  42. This had me cracking up! I have a terribly sensitive sniffer and an easy gag reflex...I can smell a fart 3 rooms away. Not great in my profession because kids stink...and have no shame. Today a third grader sat in class with his hand down the butt of his pants...digging around...removed fingers..right to nose for a big old sniff. I just turned and walked away. Barf. I agree Subway stinks..and ALL Wal-mart bathrooms smell the exact, awful way. weird.

  43. I totally understand your white-trash self! For some reason I like the smell of alcohol on guys. In moderation of course!
