One of my dearest blogging friends, Emily, is pregnant with her second baby-- a girl this time. Emily and I have been friends for a few year through blogging and have leaned on each other quite a bit. Her and her husband, Tim, have been trying to have this baby for awhile. So it was a happy day when she called Aly and I and told us the news.
Since Aly and I went to Tulsa, we have been talking about what we can do for Emily. A massage? A gift? When I found out that no one was hosting her a shower yet, Aly and I decided that we could pull off a big surprise, with the help of Emily's family.
Last Saturday morning, around 6am, I pack up Chris and the kids and get on the road towards Effingham. That's about the halfway mark between us and Indianapolis and Chris's family lives there. I was dropping them off for the day, while I made the drive to Indy, with my gas station snacks and 90's music.
They got dropped off around 8:15am and I got back on 70 East. My estimated arrival time was about 10:30am, which would give me about 30 minutes to finish my eye makeup and set up. The 10 guests were arriving to the restaurant at 11am and Emily would be arriving at 11:30am.
About an hour into my drive, Aly sends me a text that she is running late, but will be at the restaurant in a few minutes. I look at my dashboard and it's only 9:30am. So I reach for my phone again to text her back and notice my phone says 10:30am. I'm like, what the hell? Did the drive just fly by? Should I be looking for my exit? And then the pit of my stomach drops. Indy is an hour ahead of us. I was going to be late to the surprise party I was hosting.
I call Aly and I say, "Aly, oh my god. I didn't know about the time change." And Aly say, "No.... the time doesn't change until tonight." And I was like, "No, I didn't know Indy was on a different time." Then we both got it at the same time. Aly, being the party planning that she is, isn't even phased by the issue. She hangs up with me and starts sending facebook message so that Tim delays delivering Emily.
I made it there with about 3 minutes to spare, before the 11:30am arrival. Thank goodness Tim got the message, so he told Emily that he forgot his coat so they had to turn around.
Watching her walk in was priceless....
What was so funny was she said, "I just texted you!" Of all of the parking spaces in the mall parking lot, her and I parked next to each other.
everyone in my phone is named after a celebrity with the same first name
Overall, it was a perfect sprinkle for a well deserved friend. I can't wait to meet Baby Katy. Go leave Emily some love HERE.
Now please check out some of these fab ladies...
Kim from A Happier Girl is one of those moms that does it all. She works full time outside the house, juggle schedules of two kids, is on the healthy lifestyle bandwagon, and keeps her funny husband in line. I love her writing style and her posts have some substance. She is training for a half marathon right now. Go say hello HERE.
Sorry, Kim, I have no idea why the picture is so tiny.
