Since the beginning of the summer, I have been packing on weight. I can give excuses like it's the only way into Heaven, but it really just comes down to the fact that I eat refined carbs and a lotta 'em. This is the heaviest that I have been since about 2 months post-Olive.
Then each day last week was spent in a different city for work. Birmingham, Atlanta, St. Louis, Kansas City... and then on to Fort Wayne to run with my girlfriends. By this point, I was a bloated and tired.
My first half marathon back in April, I ran it in 2:30, through one of the hilliest courses in the country. But now I am 15 pounds heavier and I even joked around that my ass finished 10 minutes after my legs. I can't keep hauling all this ass around.
The Fort Wayne half marathon was still, nonetheless, my favorite race to date. Best water stations, bathrooms, volunteers, and overall organization of pickup and race prep. Not only did I get to run with my favorite people (minus you, Laura), I had a lot of fun.
My finish time was 2:40 something and I was able to finish out the last 4 miles with my new friend, Sandra. I always hate every minute of the race. I always want to stop and pick up the water cups. I always think that I should just walk for a few minutes. I'm always way too distracted. And bored. But as soon as I cross the finish line, I feel like I just shit a bunch of roses. And I always want to do it again.
Regardless of my fat girl bounce, I had the best time with these ladies. It's the best and most fun conversations meeting people for the first time that you have followed for months, even years. I can't thank my home-slice, Ashley, enough for getting the whole crew together... and Melanie for making the 12 hour round trip in the car the most fun, even if we could never be on Amazing Race together. Ha!!
I loved meeting the PG Sisters (soooooo funny!), the gorgeous Meredith, the super freaky fast Emily, Brookie Cookie, the awesome Mama Tay LeMay, and my new girl crush Faith! Thank you for being the same in person as you are on your blogs. I can't wait to be your water girl at the next race meetup. :)
And it always feels like home seeing these two. Even though I didn't even come close to beating B$, I am happy that I was able to run the first 7 miles with Megan, while she stopped 26 times to pee and then still whooped my ass.
This weekend there is a half marathon in my town, just down the hill from my subdivision. I am registering today and hopefully having a Redemption Race. My pride needs it. I have the full in two months and I need to put on my big girl pants in bow out in style.
Do you remember last week when I started the Green Giant 4 week challenge with myself to stop my Diet Cheats? My issue is really eating whatever Chris eats, but Dr. V emailed me some advice to stay on track this week. Next Monday I will share my progress. In the meantime, we went grocery shopping and I bought a bunch of Green Giant veggies like mushrooms, carrots, asparagus, and a bag of the steamers.
Dr. V sent me this advice for the week about kicking it into gear and not having an eating competition with my husband. It cracked me up that she said hungry street animal. How did she know? I am signing up for the Green Giant Lose It App today to track my food and calories.
I see you’ve been revving up for the Giant Challenge this week. And yes, I totally get where you're coming from on the unfairness of watching your mate chow down on the most delicious, deep-fried indulgences while you're left with a rice cake and a cup of warm club soda. How could you not succumb to temptation when it's just you out there in the Dieting Wilderness while hubby's all snug in the Eat-What-You-Want Cabin?
What I want you to do is this: See if you can get your husband to join you in making a Giant Difference. Make those meals something you do to together. And here's the upside, with all the tasty options and large portions Green Giant's offering, you won't have to worry about convincing him to put down the queso for a rice cake.
Now that I think about it, I'm really glad there's no rice cakes involved with the Giant Difference. I don't think I could tempt a hungry street animal with a rice cake.
What are your favorite Green Giant veggies?
Any good recipes that you make to roll veggies into your suppers for your kids?
