We all know that I'm no fun. In addition to be the chubbiest vegetarian of all time, I am not much of an animal fan. We never had pets growing up, and I never really thought I would have them as an adult. This comes mainly out of fear, probably from the time that my brother was throwing teenie weenies at the dalmatian next door and the ol bitch pounced on my face.
The week that I started dating Chris, he went and adopted Chauncey. I was so in love and obsessed that I faked my dog-love until I got that shit on lock down. Things like this have been known to blow up in my face. Similar to being asked how much Excel experience I had when my boss hired me. Never answer that you are the Queen of Excel. Your life will consist of hitting the damn Microsoft help bubble and YouTube'ing videos in different languages just to make a Pareto chart.
Now back to my story. I am not an animal person.
But after we had to put Chauncey to sleep a few weeks ago, our house has felt empty. I no longer know when someone to driving by to rob us. I now have to clean up all of Olive's supper that she throws on the ground. Chris is depressed. And I would let him sleep with us until the end of time if I could have a re-do.
So for the last couple of weeks, Chris has been asking me for a dog for Christmas. Of course I am not on board. I am still emotionally traumatized from having to put down Chauncey unexpectedly and I don't want to potty train and puppy and a toddler at the same time. Not enough Lumiday or Miller Lt in the world for that.
Every time he brings it up, I play the bitch card. Or just be myself. And say absolutely not, we have brand new carpet, we need to potty train Olive, etc, etc, etc. Just no.
My friends at work have been sending me pictures and ads of dogs for weeks. I finally told them that if I am meant to get a dog, I will see a sign, but for now, I think we are going to wait until spring. About 30 minutes later, I head to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned. I shit you not, when I walked in the door, there was a SIGN ON THE WALL that said the dental hygienist had a litter of miniature dachshunds, who looked just like Chauncey, that would be weaned by Christmas. And when I was talking about a sign, I wasn't thinking a real freaking sign with colorful marker and pictures. But sometimes God has to make things crystal clear for me.
The only kicker was that the puppies were kind of expensive and I didn't know how I would take out that amount of money without him asking any questions. The dental hygienist then offered to mail me a fake dental bill. That was tempting. But instead, I texted my mother in law, the dog lover of dog lovers, the woman who buys cat food for cats that are not even her own... and I ask if she can help me out. Of course, she says yes and mails the lady a check without Chris knowing.
On Friday, while he was at work, I went over and picked up the puppy. I then took the puppy to my BFF's, Joan's, house where he was supposed to stay until Christmas Eve. The plan was to go over there after dinner to see the lights and let her see the kids.
But Saturday morning, I couldn't take it any longer. After hiding my phone and deleting texts like I was a whore on Cheaters, I finally texted Joan that I was on my way to get the puppy. When we walked in her house, she had the puppy all bundled in a blanket. Chris immediately knew what was going on... and the smile on his face will stay with me for-ev-er. It was the best.
We named our little puppy Tobias Funke (10 cool-points if you get the reference)... or Toby! He is just the most calm and well behaved little pup. Haven keeps calling him "Baby Chauncey"... and I think Olive believes it is Chauncey. But regardless, we are all happy again!
Even this Grinch's heart grew a few sizes bigger...
Also, while you are jumping around today, be sure to stop by two of my favorite blogs.
First up is Emily from Beauty and the Greek. I met Emily in Fort Wayne when we both did the Fort4Fitness half marathon. She finished hours before I did, but she is probably one of the prettiest people I have met in real life... and so, so nice. She is a nurse that is in the middle of building her dream home with her husband. Emily also just completed her first full marathon this month. Go check her out and some her some love HERE and be sure to add her to your bloglovin' HERE.
Amy from Crazy Wise Woman has one of the best new blogs out there. She is a single mom of three, who works full time and it on the fitness train. She plays tennis, cooks, blogs, and is really funny. Amy also offers virtual interior design services on her blog. I like that she posts a little bit of everything-- her gifs are HILARIOUS. Please head over and visit Amy's blog HERE and add her to your bloglovin' HERE.
Also, I have a few sponsor spaces left for January!
larges spaces for $25/each and small spots for $15/each. Sponsorship includes a free custom button, a blog spotlights, and plugs to your social media. It's a great way to get new people to your page.
